## What this page is
This is Klook's route page for highway buses between Tokyo and Kyoto. It lists the day's services with departure and arrival times, an operator code and a starting price, and sells tickets for them. The route has no transfers.
## Time and price
The page gives the shortest journey as 7 hours and the average as 8 hours 10 minutes. Ticket prices ranged from US$14.60 to US$70.58 with an average of US$42.59. When we read it, 32 services were scheduled for 14 October 2026 from 5 operators.
## What a service looks like
The first services listed were night buses. SA55 left at 00:00 and arrived at 07:45 from US$27.98; SA47 left at 00:10 and arrived at 07:50 from US$14.60; SA57R left at 00:20 and arrived at 07:30 from US$27.98. Each is marked as a night bus with a two-driver system and shows a pick-up stop and a drop-off stop, with arrival at Kyoto Station.
## How it compares
The page itself describes the bus as the budget option that takes significantly longer than the bullet train, and notes that many overnight buses on this route let you save a night of accommodation. Its own Shinkansen page for the same route shows a fastest journey of 2 hours, so the trade is roughly five to six hours against a much lower fare.
## What to check
The page does not set out seat type, luggage rules or the exact pick-up point for each service. Confirm those in the service you choose, especially if you will arrive at a station at dawn.
## When it fits
It suits travellers on a tight budget, or those who want to sleep on the way and arrive in Kyoto in the early morning. If you want a daytime journey or a fixed arrival time, the train is the safer choice.
